FAQ's

  • When should I book my bridal fitting appointment?

We recommend you book an appointment for your bridal fitting as soon as you have your dress as appointments fill up fast.

  • What is the number one alteration you recommend for the best fit?

The most important and most common alteration for a wedding dress is adjusting the hem length. This ensures the bride can walk comfortably without tripping and that the dress falls beautifully, especially when worn with heels. Feeling confident and comfortable throughout the day is essential.

A close second would be bodice adjustments, such as taking in or letting out the sides, to ensure a perfect fit around the bust and waist. This also includes making sure straps or shoulders sit correctly for a truly custom-fit finish.

  • Can a wedding dress be made bigger if it’s too small?

Yes, in many cases a wedding dress can be let out, but this depends on the designer and how much seam allowance was included when the dress was made. Some dresses have generous inlays, while others are more limited.

If there isn’t enough fabric to let the dress out, we can often explore creative solutions, such as adding discreet panels or incorporating a corset back, to achieve the desired fit without compromising the overall design.

  • What is the ideal timeline for wedding dress alterations?

We recommend starting wedding dress alterations around 6 to 12 weeks before the wedding day. This allows enough time for multiple fittings if needed and accommodates any natural body changes.

Ideally, all alterations are completed at least two weeks before the wedding, so everything is ready without any last-minute stress.

  • How many fittings do you usually suggest, and what happens at each one?

Most brides require two to three fittings.

The first fitting focuses on assessing the overall fit, discussing the bride’s preferences, and pinning any necessary alterations. The second fitting is used to review and refine those adjustments and to add details such as a bustle if required. A third fitting is only needed if further tweaks are required, but most dresses are perfectly fitted by the second or third visit.

  • How close to the wedding should the final fitting be?

We usually recommend scheduling the final fitting three to four weeks before the wedding, allowing the dress to be safely at home with the bride well in advance. If needed, we can accommodate final checks up to two weeks before the big day.

And if any last-minute adjustments are required, we always do our best to help ensure everything is perfect.

  • What is the largest alteration or customisation you’ve carried out on a wedding dress?

One of the most memorable alterations we’ve completed was a full restyling for a petite bride. The dress needed to be made larger, so panels were added and several elements reshaped to achieve the perfect fit.

It took three to four fittings to complete, but the transformation was beautiful. Seeing the bride feel confident and comfortable in a dress that truly fit her made the process incredibly rewarding.

  • What should I bring to my fitting?

Please bring the shoes you plan to wear on your wedding day so the hem length can be adjusted accurately. You should also bring any shapewear, special underwear, underskirts, or additional layers you intend to wear.

These items are essential for achieving the best possible fit and ensuring you look and feel your best on the day.

  • Is each alteration priced individually?

Yes, alterations are priced based on the specific work required. For example, hemming has a set price, while adjustments to the bust, waist, straps, or tapering are priced separately.

After the first fitting, you’ll be provided with an estimate. Any additional alterations requested later may incur extra costs, but pricing typically remains consistent unless changes are added.

  • What is a bustle, and should I consider adding one?

A bustle is a discreet loop-and-button or ribbon system added to lift the train of the dress off the floor after the ceremony. It’s a popular option for the reception, allowing the bride to move freely, dance comfortably, and enjoy the evening without worrying about the length of the gown.

A bustle is both practical and stylish, often giving the dress a new silhouette for the later part of the day.

  • If my weight changes after my dress is ordered, can you still work with it?

In most cases, yes. Weight changes are very common, and we can almost always work with the dress. This depends on the designer and the amount of seam allowance or inlays available, but it’s usually nothing to worry about.

Our goal is always to take the stress off the bride and find the best solution to ensure a comfortable, flattering, and beautiful fit.
